In His Image: Welcoming All Abilities

Event Introduction

As a parish family, we are called to welcome every person as a beloved son or daughter of God. Some in our parish have disabilities, or care for those who do. They need to be "seen" by all of us with patience, compassion, dignity and practical support, as Jesus does. Persons unfamiliar with disabilities may be uneasy in interactions, fearful of doing or saying something "wrong." Yet we want to do as Jesus does.

Guest Speaker

Deacon Timothy Killmeyer, Diaconal Assistant to Persons with Disabilities for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, will speak about disabilities in general, and the challenges persons with disabilities and their caregivers face at all life stages. He'll share Catholic social teaching that affirms their dignity in a society that prizes control and independence, and even provide some practical advice for meeting the physical AND spiritual needs of those with different abilities.
