One of the beautiful things about being people of faith, especially Christian faith, is that other people often request us to lift up in prayer their personal special intentions. As a married couple, the spouses may be asked together or separately to pray for the needs of others. Those intercessory prayers can be brought together by the couple in the context of their own prayer time. Perhaps before the meal blessing, the spouses can lift up any requests they have received from others so that they are praying together for those needs and intentions. It is a simple way of honoring those requests from others, while at the same time uniting the couple more deeply in their own prayer lives. As with all prayers, they should be ended by praying in the name of Jesus Christ who is the one true intercessor in heaven. When we pray in His name, our imperfect human words become perfect because of Him. We trust that He will take them to His Father and they will be answered in accord with His holy will. Once again, through this very simple offering of prayer, the couple is united in their marriage with Christ as the center. This is the ultimate goal and aim of all Christian marriages!
